FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is cashmere?

What is the difference between cashmere and pashmina?

Pashmina simply means shawl in Persian and in various Asian and Arabic languages. So if you are offered a shawl made of 100% pashmina at a bazaar, you have a 100% shawl, but it doesn’t have to contain any particular fiber. You often see the designation 50% silk and 50% pashmina. This is usually a mixture of the cheapest Chinese silk and acrylic fibers.

Only the undercoat of the cashmere goat can be called real cashmere.

But great caution is also required there. Since cashmere is very expensive and very rare, cheap fibers or sheep’s wool are often mixed in. All of our scarves are regularly tested by a test laboratory in Zurich. Our finest fibers are among the most precious in the world. We also use the back and stomach areas. You can find more information directly on the scarf.

How do I care for my cashmere scarf?

Don’t worry, cashmere is relatively easy to care for. If it is not dirty, it is best to dry it in the fresh air or hang it in the bathroom. The steam that is created when you shower will make it smell wonderfully fresh again. Give your scarf 24 hours of rest after each use. This allows the fibers to recover. It is best to wash it in the machine at 20 degrees on the gentle wool cycle. Of course you can also wash it by hand, but please make sure that the water is not warmer than 20 degrees. Please use wool detergent and not fabric softener. Dry your scarf lying down and then steam it thoroughly. VIDEO

Why is my cashmere scarf / poncho pilling?

Cashmere is a natural fiber. Some of the fibers are a little shorter and come out of the fabric. High-quality cashmere, from our Luxe category upwards, does not pill. However, even with the highest quality ponchos and sweaters, pilling is unavoidable because there is friction when worn. Wash your favorite item regularly and remove any pilling with a special pilling remover if necessary. video

Why is Carina Cashmere so cheap compared to other providers?

Carina Cashmere is both a retailer and an importer. We buy the scarves directly from a small manufacturer in Nepal. This allows us to avoid the horrendous mark-ups that the wholesalers charge. You can find cashmere in all possible qualities, from the simpler ones that are similar to sheep’s wool to the very precious ones that are finer than any silk.

How is it produced?

Can I return a scarf if I don’t like it?

If the color or quality does not meet your expectations, you can of course return it immediately after receiving it. Please ensure that the scarf is properly repackaged and that no damage occurs on the way back. If you would like to choose a color, please contact us in advance. Please notify us of returns by email.

Can the cashmere scarves be dyed?

Some color may come out during the first few washes; we ask that you only wash the scarf with similar colors.

Do cashmere scarves itch?

Cashmere is not a scaly wool like that of sheep or alpacas. For this reason, the fiber itself cannot actually itch. However, the cheaper scarves use very short fibers, which can then come out of the fabric (this is called pilling, it looks like small balls) and can cause itching. Pashmina scarves made of first-class cashmere usually no longer itch, even for very sensitive scarf wearers ( first-class scarves ).
